Procedure Guidance
Your procedure day has arrived β here's everything you need to know to make the experience smooth, safe, and as stress-free as possible.
π§Ό 1. Final Preparation
Before leaving home:
Take a shower, thoroughly washing the groin and scrotal area with soap.
Do not apply creams, powders, or deodorants to the area.
Wear tight, supportive underwear and loose-fitting trousers or joggers.
Eat a light meal 1β2 hours before your appointment (do not arrive with an empty stomach).
Bring a clean spare pair of tight underwear.
Arrange a lift home β you cannot drive yourself.
π 2. Arrival at the Clinic
Arrive 10β15 minutes before your appointment time.
Please check in at the front desk and confirm your details.
Youβll review and sign a final consent form and can ask any last-minute questions with the doctor.
π 3. What Happens During the Vasectomy?
We perform a No-Scalpel Vasectomy (NSV) β a modern technique designed to be minimally invasive, fast, and with a quicker recovery than traditional methods.
Hereβs what to expect:
Local anaesthetic is injected into the skin of the scrotum and around the vas deferens (the tubes that carry sperm) to completely numb the area β you may feel a brief sting or pinch.
A small opening (about 5mm) is made in the skin β no scalpel is used.
The vas deferens are brought up, divided, and sealed using a cautery technique.
The tubes are placed back, and no stitches are needed β the opening is so small it closes on its own.
The whole process takes about 10-15 minutes.
You should not feel any pain during the procedure following the local anaesthesia, although mild tugging or pressure sensations are normal.
π 4. After the Procedure
Immediately after:
Youβll rest for a few minutes in the clinic before being discharged.
Youβll be given aftercare advice and a written post-operative leaflet.
Mild swelling or bruising is normal β tight underwear and rest will help.
Make sure you:
Go straight home to rest for the remainder of the day.
Avoid strenuous activity, lifting, or sports for at least 48 hours.
Take paracetamol or ibuprofen if needed for discomfort.
Apply an ice pack wrapped in thin cloth over your underwear for short periods if swollen.
